ENGINES
While the original Porsche 356 Speedster was a beautiful car to look at, in stock form it left much to be desired in terms of power and noise levels. In addition, with the engine mounted back of the rear axles, cornering at speeds was also an issue.
CSW Speedsters uses modern water-cooled engines in its replicas. The engines come from either the turbocharged Toyota MR II or the Honda Prelude.
Advantages of the modern water-cooled engines we use over the air cooled VW engines used in most 356 Speedster replica cars include:
- greatly increased horsepower
- reliability
- effective hot water heating
- a significant reduction in noise levels
- ease of servicing at any garage
- reduced emissions levels
Mounting the engine forward of the axles gives superior weight distribution and therefore cornering performance. The skidding tendency that plagues most original Porsche 356 Speedsters and replicas is not a problem for the CSW Speedster . This makes for a car that is a lot more fun to drive and is much safer.
