Title & Registration
In Minnesota, kit cars are considered in the same category as reconstructed vehicles. Vehicles that have been reconstructed, or specially constructed, are subject to a motor vehicle inspection but application for title must be made before the inspection. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Driver and Vehicle Services website has a list of inspection stations.
Required Application Documents
Note: Additional information or documents may be requested after application is reviewed by central office.
Registration follows the normal registration process for the state.
Completed Application to Title and/or Register a Motor Vehicle (PS2000).
Completed Affidavit of Reconstruction (PS2015). Please be specific about the alterations or reconstruction done to the vehicle.
- Proof of ownership for all major parts used in the reconstruction. Please note:If minimum proof of ownership for the cab, body, or frame of a car or truck; or for the frame or major components of a motorcycle; cannot be provided, the vehicle is subject to bonding. A statement of facts and an affidavit of protection must accompany the application for title.
A Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin is required as proof of ownership for kit cars
Emissions Testing
No emissions testing in Minnesota.
